Flu Vaccines

Flu vaccines are available each year from September – March.

 

Who can have the flu vaccine?

For the 2023/24  season, the flu vaccine will be available free on the NHS to adults who:

  • are 65 and over (including those who will turn 65 by 31 March 2024)
  • have a chronic health condition such as Diabetes, Heart, Kidney or Lung disease, Asthma requiring medication, COPD, certain neurological conditions
  • are pregnant
  • have a learning disability
  • are very overweight (BMI 40+)
  • have a problem with your spleen, such as sickle cell disease
  • receive a carer’s allowance, or are the main carer for an older or disabled person who may be at risk if you get sick
  • have (or live with someone who has) a weakened immune system, such as someone living with HIV, someone who has had a transplant, or is having certain treatments for cancer, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis

Children and flu vaccine

All children with a date of birth between 1/9/19 and 31/8/2021 are eligible for a nasal flu vaccine. This can be given at the GP surgery. Please call us to book or request an appointment through PATCHS.

Older children will be offered the flu vaccine at school.

If your child is in clinical risk group and their age group will not be offered the flu vaccine at school they can have a nasal flu vaccination at the surgery.
